Hello Windows Insiders, we’re excited to release the first Windows 11 Insider Preview build to the Dev Channel!
Over the next few months, we’ll be working with you to validate the experience as we finalize the product. You’ll get to try many, but not all, of the new features we showed off last week in this early preview. We’ll be bringing them to you in the coming months, with features like chat with Microsoft Teams and Android apps in the Microsoft Store — and we’re on this journey together!
WSR is being ignored
Changes and improvements – – [General] Windows 11 is transitioning from Windows Speech Recognition (WSR) to voice access. When you open WSR, a dialog will pop up prompting you to try voice access, and they’ve also added a banner under Settings > Accessibility > Speech as they are. Voice Access, our new assistive technology in Windows 11, uses on-device speech recognition to enable control of your PC and text authoring without an Internet connection.
Dialog advises you to try Voice Access when opening Windows Speech Recognition
It will support multiple languages and custom commands in a future update (these features are now available for Windows Insiders to try in the beta channel, as mentioned above). They recommend that WSR users try using Voice Access today and get started. – [Nearby Sharing] They can do this by going to Settings > System > Nearby Sharing.
Ex: “Speak quickly”, “Read next line”, etc
Give your device a more friendly name to identify sharing with Nearby Sharing. – [Narrator] Narrator users can now use Voice Access to open apps, dictate text, and interact with elements on the screen using their voice. Narrator users can use Voice Access to give Narrator commands using their voice.
To get started, search for “Voice Access” in Windows Search and set it up
Fixes – – [Task Manager] When creating a dump file for a process, the dump file location should now be selectable, so you can copy it. – [Desktop] Made some improvements to address an issue where background jumping could be seen when switching betTheyen desktops.
