The exploits of various guests and staff at a luxury resort over the course of a week. HBO has renewed the series for a second season, despite the show being a limited one-season miniseries. The show is said to be an anthology-style series with new characters each season. HBO has done this before (to wide acclaim) with True Detective (2014). Featuring Jeremy Vine: Episode #4.175 (2021). While some of the first season was cringe-worthy. This second season is as masterful as anyone could hope for. The first episode starts a little slow, but it quickly picks up and impresses over and over again, captivating me like I wasn’t quite there yet. It feels like I’m revisiting every thought I’ve ever had about a vacation resort, many of which I’d long since forgotten. This alone is a pleasure, but don’t worry – flirting with operatic heights of drama and beauty is something quite fitting, given its setting in Sicily. Given the excellent acting and seemingly effortless storytelling, I’d have to say that Mike White, the series’ creator, is something of an unsung genius. The guy seems to know no bounds and has some of the most striking detail I’ve ever seen.
