Katie, a freelance video editor in dire need of work, receives a high-paying offer from an anonymous employer to edit a mysterious and bizarre video. Running out of money and facing eviction, Katie eagerly accepts the gig. The video depicts people being tortured and even killed on camera—really just an elaborately staged fantasy. But as this first job leads to even more productive work and disturbingly realistic horror films, Katie’s life begins to fall apart. Strange figures haunt her apartment, terrifying nightmares keep her awake, and a mysterious illness afflicts her cat. It’s only when Katie finally decides to quit her job that she realizes just how cruel her anonymous employer really is and how cruelly he’s trying to get out of the contract.
