The prequel to the original Dune tells the story of how Rosak’s sister became a Bene Gesserit. The incident with Valya Harkonnen, using voiceover, is from one called “Mentats of Dune”. All three books deal with the development of the sisters, Mentats, Navigators, and Brush Doctors. I don’t want to be critical of just the first episode of the TV show, but it was just average on all levels.
The story was very loose, and the dialogue wasn’t Dune-worthy
The acting was subpar, except for a few familiar actors like Mark Strong, Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, and maybe Travis Fimmel. The rest of the cast felt like they just graduated from film school or something. I like slow dramas that take forever to build because I know the payoff is worth the wait. But it wasn’t just slow, there was a lot going on, but it was just boring, I don’t know how else to put it.
I’m not sure Denis Villeneuve was involved in this production, I hope not
The soundtrack that roamed the movies was a little bit ripped off here and there, a few familiar sounds popped up here and there, but it just wasn’t timed right. It was like I was hearing a lot of music here that didn’t really have any effect. I remembered how long in movies we go for with people just talking, and then boom, Hans Zimmer does his magic, and I got so excited. But I know he didn’t contribute to the sound design here, and I don’t even need to check.
Food for thought
My question is, did he even like it being made? Would a mediocre TV show like this after two epic movies have any impact on the highly anticipated third movie? What interests me is that Penguin was so good that it made me appreciate Batman even more than I did after watching it, and I can’t wait for the second movie. So how would Dune: Prophecy affect the third movie, if there is one at all.
